I love this book. The pictures are not complex to color, but not overly simple. So if you're looking for something that's a step above easy, this is perfect. The paper is a little thin, and with a few of the pictures some of the lines are super light. But overall it's great to color. One of my favorites.

I am an adult who enjoys coloring books, but I'm not a fan of the trendy "adult coloring books" that have thin, intricate lines - I like large images where I can take my time with shading and color. This book is somewhere between those two ideas... lots of area to color, with some finer details (mostly in the patterns on the clothing). The art is GORGEOUS, with hair shading and tons of pretty detail. I especially appreciated that there was a lot of sakura (cherry blossom) detailing both on clothing and in environment detail, since cherry blossoms are a favorite of mine. There is also quite a bit of other floral work, very relaxing if you enjoy floral imagery. The paper is high quality for a color book - medium weight, smooth but textured. I think water-based markers would work well here with all the details and pre-shaded areas. The author suggests pencils, and I agree, since blending color almost seems like a requirement for these lovely frocks. :) I don't think the images would work well with crayons, chalk, or alcohol markers. It's important to note that each image in this coloring book is unique, and at 30 pages, that's a bargain for what this book cost. There is also a great deal of variety in poses and expressions for each girl that I know I will enjoy bringing to life with color. I did notice that some of the fine lines in the images did not copy well, with gaps of white space, and in a few of the images the framing was off, so (for example) the side of an umbrella would be abruptly cut off. That's a shame, as the detail of these images should be allowed to be seen in full splendor. This is the only reason I took off a star, but I would still highly recommend this book, and I think a lot of these prints would be frameable once colored. I plan to turn a few of these into dividers for my journals. :)
